dilek.
I grew up in Berlin, the child of Turkish parents which meant growing up between two worlds, two kitchens, two ideas of what food should taste like and what it should mean.
That duality never left me. I went on to study Food Science and Technology, won European Commission scholarships that took me across the UK and to New York, and spent years working with some of London's leading cake studios, learning the craft from the inside out. But what I kept coming back to was something simpler: the pleasure of making something by hand for someone you care about.
I opened dilekerei in Berlin in 2013 not just as a bakery, but as the place where both halves of my life could finally sit at the same table. The hazelnuts come from Turkey. The fruit comes from our family garden here in Berlin. The techniques come from years of training. The recipes come from memory.
This is what I bake. I hope you taste the difference.
